About the Artist
Hi, I’m Jasmine. I’m a self-taught watercolour artist originally from Hampshire, England, with a creative practice inspired by the varied landscapes of the British countryside and coast and nature across the world.
My path into art hasn’t followed a traditional route; I’ve learned entirely through my own practice. By experimenting with different materials, paints, and papers, and learning through trial and error, I developed my style – a growth you can clearly see when looking back at my earlier work. While I love exploring how different mediums behave, I ultimately always find myself returning to watercolours. There is something about the way the paint mixes and bleeds into the paper, paired with the physical process of painting, that I find deeply meditative and rewarding.
I highly value creative discipline and consistency, always making time to paint, whether it’s a quick 30-minute sketch or a plein air study outdoors. This dedication is best reflected in a personal challenge I set myself to paint daily, resulting in 24 completed sketchbooks over three years. That daily habit hugely improved my technical skills in anatomy and form, shaped how I look at light and shadow, and gave me the confidence to paint almost any subject.
Current Project: 60 Paintings to the Wild
Right now, my main focus is a watercolour series called 60 Paintings to the Wild. This collection is a celebration of wild animals and the natural habitats they live in. The series is heavily inspired by my own close interactions with nature, ranging from observing wildlife in Kenya to exploring the marine life in local rockpools in Cornwall. Through these pieces, I want to capture both the unique character of the wildlife and the raw beauty of nature through my own creative lens.
